Break Cheryl’s book drought, part four

This is the second suggestion I’ve received for The Devil in the White City: You know, it really is compelling reading, and like Shockley, I mourn that I’ll never be able to see those gorgeous buildings torn down after the 1893 World’s Fair. I’m wondering if we have enough support in our region for the all-Erik Larson book club.

From Debra Shockley:

I have been in a (attributed to middle age and too much work, family, volunteering and etc.) reading drought for several yearsnow. I keep hoping it will end but until it does, I’ll keep reading the newspaper every day at least. The last good book I read cover to cover was The Devil in the White City. It had that mix of mystery, real and imagined, and a description of a place I wish still existed.

I have been wanting to read The Audacity of Hope but instead I bought the CDs. I still consider the CDs the lazy way out, but there are better than a book gathering dusty on my nightstand pile of “intentions.”
